What are your plans for National Doggie Date nite?

by Chris Brown

In my house every day and night is for the dogs, but in a good way! But I thought it would be nice to post on the actual, "National Doggie Date Nite" day and give you some background information on this day and why we love to celebrate this special day with our furry friends.

Doggie Date Night was invented in 2009 for pet parents everywhere to celebrate and pamper the dogs they love. While you don't need a special night to celebrate your furry pal(s), it's a fun event that every pet parent should honour and participate in. This could include the whole family or just you and your furry pal(s).

Whether your dog prefers cozy nights in by the fire or simply feels safer at home, there are plenty of creative ways to make your time together special with little cost involved. Here are a few tips to make a fun date night with your dogs.

  • Going for a Hike: Going for a lovely hike somewhere new with your furry pal(s)--trying a new trail is always a big win with my fur babies, and when you get back home you have happy tired pups. This way you can sit down and relax with them for more cuddle time on the sofa. Good for both humans and dogs.

  • Special Movie Night: Set up a movie night. If you have more than one dog, like we do, make sure they both get equal time with you. I usually sit in the middle of the sofa so both dogs can snuggle up on either side of me. Choose their favourite cozy blankets to snuggle up in, dim the lights for a relaxing atmosphere, and select some treats that are safe and healthy for them during the movie. Sometimes I like to clear the living room floor and add comfy blankets and floor pillows to create one big lounge bed so we can all cuddle together. Your pup will love the fact that you're joining them down on the floor, and it makes for awesome cuddles and belly rubs. When selecting a movie, pick movies with soothing sounds or nature scenes, I love watching my dogs watching other animals on the TV. Just make it fun for all!

Today, where we live in Canada it is SNOWING! So, sitting by the fire, cuddling in blankets and watching a good movie is what we will be doing. Enjoy your evening with your fur babies and please drop us a line on social media, Instagram or Facebook and let us know and or share pics of your Doggie Date Nite! Remember it’s about having fun and connecting with your fur babies. Enjoy!
