About Chase

Having owned six Weimaraners, we applied to OWRAssist in April 2023 to potentially adopt a Weim rescue after the untimely passing of our nine-year-old boy. In May 2023 we were asked if we would be interested in taking on a two-year-old male Weim with epilepsy as a Lifetime Foster. It took some consideration as neither of us were familiar with dealing with epilepsy. Ultimately, we decided that we might be his only chance to be adopted at all, and as I work from home, I could keep a close eye on him. His name is Chase.

Frankly, the road hasn’t been easy, but it has been educating. Canine epilepsy requires an evolution of hit-or-miss cocktails of medications, specialized food, neurologist visits, and multiple sets of bloodwork to check the therapeutic drug levels and liver function. This is all very expensive - Chase’s epilepsy related costs were over $9,300 in 2024. Without the backing of OWRAssist, we could not begin to cover these kinds of expenses (in addition to regular dog ownership costs). We are happy to say that through perseverance, a good neurologist, and

OWRAssist, after two years and at the moment of writing, Chase is 182 days seizure- free and living his best life with his Weim brother Richie! Thank you to OWRAssist for truly rescuing this beautiful dog.
